Vineland Construction Offers Space for Downtown Mural Project

VINELAND, NJ -- The first community painting day for the city's downtown mural project is scheduled for May 12.  The city had been looking for a place large enough space for community members to paint the mural -- a collaborative effort between Main Street Vineland and Appel Farm Arts & Music Center of Elmer.  Vineland Construction Co. offered space in a building at 56 W. Landis Ave., allowing officials to schedule six painting days, Main Street Vineland Executive Director Todd Noon said.  "People will be able to take pride that they were actually a part of this mural, which will be a major part of the beautification and revitalization of downtown Vineland," Noon said. Organizers hope to finish the mural in time for Vineland's 150th birthday in August. The finished pieces of the mural will be mounted together on the east side of an office building on the 600 block of East Landis Avenue that overlooks 99-Cent Dreams.

The first painting session, on May 12, will welcome volunteers between noon and 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available courtesy of three downtown eateries: Bain's Deli, Crêpemaker Café and The Sweet Life Bakery.  The other sessions will take place on Saturdays -- May 14 and 21, June 11 and 18, and July 16. Those sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
